Tikun Olam, the repair of our world, is but one of the mitzvot we are commanded to fulfill. Here at Shir Shalom we try to do our part while involving members of all ages. Social Action projects and activities carry us through our year.

We begin with our High Holiday Food Drive for the local food pantry. In the fall we collect toiletries that we deliver along with a hot meal to the homeless in New York City as part of a Breakfast Run. Chanukah always brings a Chanukah gift collection for needy children in Brooklyn. We gather multiple times each year for “Cookin’ For The Kitchen” when food is prepared by Temple families and delivered to a local soup kitchen. On the first Sunday of every month, each grade in our religious school takes a turn to prepare sandwiches for the needy in Danbury as part of our Sandwiches for Service. On that same Sunday, we also prepare and serve a hot meal to our Danbury neighbors in need at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House.
